Faculty of Physical Therapy, Mahidol University is the oldest institution and the biggest academic and research place for teaching physical therapy in Thailand. It was established in 1965 as the School of Physiotherapy within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Physiotherapy, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University. In 1999, the school became recognized as the Faculty of Physical Therapy and Applied Movement Science, and then became the Faculty of Physical Therapy, Mahidol University in 2009. The Faculty conducts the most extensive academic teaching and research projects concerning physcial therapy in Thailand.
In Thailand, the faculty has been the first institute initiating 3 degrees in physical therapy; Bachelor degree in the year 1965, Master degree in the year 1983, and Philosophy of Doctor degree in the year 2003. Additionally, the faculty has been the first launching a graduate diploma for physical therapy. Furthermore, the faculty also conducts researches in physical therapy in the field of musculoskeletal, neurology, pediatric, cardiopulmonary, ergonomic, exercise, and community.
Besides physical therapy programs, our faculty begins Bachelor degree in occupational therapy in the year 2008.
The faculty also have out-patient clinic for physical therapy and for occupational therapy. The clinic has been established in the year 2001 for out-patient service and research placement. Furthermore, the faculty provides physical therapy in community, particularly home health care for individuals with stroke.
